Here at Starfish Project, we just launched our Live Your Best Summer Collection and it has been an amazing one so far! Over the past month, 8 new women have joined Starfish Project to experience freedom! Of the five women who just started at our headquarters, two were brothel bosses, which means they will no longer recruit more women into exploitation!

Last week we received our favorite kind of call, a woman we’ve been visiting in a brothel for several years asked if she could come to see our offices. Yay! When she arrived, I realized she had her previous boss with her. Her boss, YuYu*, has also worked in the brothels for many years. We chatted with both women and shockingly the brothel boss was so excited about all of the opportunities at Starfish Project, that she decided to shut down her brothel and join herself! She left our office and went directly to the landlord of her brothel and said she needed to break her lease because after all these years she “finally got a real job.”

On her first day, YuYu, the former brothel boss arrived almost an hour early in the morning because she didn't want to be late for work. As she began our onboarding process and learned about our company’s mission, vision and values YuYu cried. On her second day at Starfish Project, YuYu asked if she could introduce us to the other women who used to work in her brothel so they could come to Starfish Project too. We hope her enthusiasm about the opportunities at Starfish Project will influence the women she previously employed.
