As a jewelry company, Starfish Project began at an Easter party we held in the red-light district. After a year of building relationships with the women we met in the brothels, five women made the incredibly brave decision to escape their lives of exploitation. Their courage has paved the way for over 180 women to experience freedom at Starfish Project over the last 18 years—women like Joy.

Today, Joy works in a job she loves as the Quality Control Specialist. She personally checks each and every piece of your jewelry created at our Riverside Branch before it’s sent to you. Joy loves working together with her team to complete new orders. She shares, “Coming to work every day gives me purpose and strength. When we complete an order, it makes me feel very happy and proud.”  

Joy is flourishing here at Starfish Project. She is now married and has a 7-year-old son. She dreams of a day when more women can have a safe, beautiful life. “If we receive more jewelry orders, it will mean we can all have really good work. We can have families, and we don’t have to constantly struggle.”
