NING: MY STORY OF HOPE
I grew up in the northern part of my country. It takes 18 hours to get to my hometown from our headquarters city. After coming to the city, I was trafficked by a relative into the brothels. Starfish Project outreach teams visited me while I was working in the brothels and offered me a way out. I have been at Starfish Project ever since!
I worked my way up through production, and today am our Office Administrator! I work closely with our staff to complete necessary government paperwork, prepare contracts, and assist my coworkers with projects. I also occasionally help teach computer classes, which is something I really enjoy!
When I first came to Starfish Project, I lived in the shelter for a year and half. I liked developing friendships with my roommates at the shelter but now I live in my own apartment with my two elementary school aged children.
My most significant moment at Starfish Project is the forgiveness I have experienced. A few years ago, I made a huge mistake and was in major conflict with a coworker. I was afraid I was going to lose the respect of my leaders and coworkers. Instead of condemning me, they showed me so much patience and forgiveness and understanding. This was the first time in my life that I was extended forgiveness instead of shame. This experience has helped me mature, learn, and become a better person who can also extend forgiveness to others.
I have changed in many ways, but the largest change has been maturing as a woman and a mother. When I first arrived, I was a little temperamental and stirred up trouble sometimes. Now, I feel stable and have a more positive attitude. Working in such a patient and loving environment has been instrumental in helping me develop and transform my perspective. When I am struggling, my leaders support and encourage me; it makes me very happy.
I have a Master Certification in Microsoft and I am currently taking administrative classes. In the future, I would like to learn Accounting and earn a Junior Accounting Certificate.
